The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

The Kite Runner is Khaled Hosseini's first book and he's done a very good job with it. His style is simple yet engaging, creating scenic visuals. You will find the description of Kabul with its kebab houses and tea shops, with colourful kites flying against a background of cragged mountains to be very intriguing. The humility and quiet strength in Hassan & Ali's characters is beautifully brought out. This book tells a simple and poignant story of the relationship between a Hazara boy, Hassan and his half brother, Amir. Twelve-year-old Amir is desperate to win the approval of his father and resolves to win the local kite-fighting tournament, to prove that he has the makings of a man.
